Play Music By Ear Course

$35

In Play Music by Ear, learn how to match pitch and hear scale degrees, intervals, chords, bass lines, melodies, as well as rhythm and meter. Then put it all together to play full songs by ear at the end!

Is playing music by ear a talent you’re born with…

…or a skill you learn?

Regardless of how magical and innately talented they seem, musicians practice the playing by ear, which is actually a bunch of skills tied together:

  • Matching pitch
  • Finding the key center
  • Identifying intervals
  • Hearing musical elements separately
  • Mapping notes to the key they’re in
  • Finding and building chords
  • Understanding time with rhythm and meter

You can learn all of these skills!

Have you ever sung along to the radio?

You got the first skill down: matching pitch! You probably didn’t even realize it was a skill.

That’s what all of these skills will feel like after a little guidance and practice.

This course is here to help you get started on your ear training journey and have you playing (and transcribing if you want!) music by ear in no time.

Hi, I’m Amy!

I’m a PhD student studying Music Theory & Cognition at Northwestern University in Chicago.

I love teaching, which is why you’ll find me teaching music theory on social media.

Music is something I believe everyone should have the chance to learn, so I’m doing everything I can to support affordable music education around the world.

In addition to all of this, I also love exploring Chicago, boxing, rock climbing, and just enjoying life. That’s an important part of being a musician too!

Even if you don’t sign up for the Play Music by Ear course, I hope you got at least one big takeaway from this sales page: playing by ear isn’t a mythical unlearnable talent.

It’s a bunch of small skills that you can learn.

So no matter what, I’m here to help you become the best musician you can be.
