12tone is an online education channel that covers all sorts of musical topics, like harmony, arranging, and composition. He publishes a new video (almost) every week, and seeks to inspire a love of music and music theory in as many people as possible.
His analysis videos include discussions of pop music of many genres including Nirvana, Queen, My Chemical Romance, Britney Spears, Dolly Parton, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, and many many others.
In addition to these rich analysis videos (that also include some classical topics as well), 12tone has a great playlist for beginners to music and music theory.
I highly recommend this Building Blocks series for anyone remotely interested in learning more about music, even if you don’t want to “be a musician.” It’s super approachable and goes through the basics from “what is a note” all the way to building chord progressions and borrowing chords from other keys.
Plus, each video is usually only 10–15 max. You can learn a lot in just 10 minutes!
